About Cristina

Cristina Molino is  a spanish director and cinematographer.

 

Born in Madrid (Spain) in 1985, she trained as a photographer at Efti School (Madrid Photography School) while she was studing Film, Television and Digital Media at the Complutense University of Madrid .
 

Later on she finished her studies as Cinematographer at Madrid´s Film School, ECAM (Escuela de Cine y del Audiovisual de la Comunidad de Madrid), where she was awarded with first-class honours and received a prize sponsored by Kodak, Technicolor Spain and Camara Rental.
 

After several projects as a Photographer (stage in which she receives the Biodiversity Photography Award from the Government of Spain) and as Director of Photography, she partnered to launch her own production company and made her directorial debut with the short film ¿Te vas? (Are You Leaving?), which was awarded at some of the most prestigious film festivals, such as the Locarno International Film Festival. This was followed by the short film Retorno (Return) and later by two short films for the British television network Channel 4, in association with the Arts Council of England and the dance company BalletBoyz, titled Keep Dancing and Dance with me
 

In all these projects she have had also the role of cinematographer and scriptwriter.

In 2013, Cristina was chosen to represent Europe in the first edition of the Lexus Short Films series (five short films directed by five directors from different continents), writing and directing the short film Beyond Memories, produced by The Weinstein Company. The short film premiered during the 2013 Academy Awards week in Los Angeles and later at the Cannes Film Festival.

 

Over the years, her work has been recognized at numerous national and international film festivals, such:  Locarno Film Festival, Special Mention of the Youth Jury (Switzerland, 2009); Best Director Award, Cineculpable Film Festival (Spain, 2010); Best Director Award, Cartagena Fim Festival FICC (Spain, 2010); Best Short Film Award “¿Te vas?”, Go Short Film Festival (The Netherlands, 2011);  Best Short Film Award “¿Te vas?” Online Competition, Maremetraggio Film Festival (Italy, 2011); Special Mention of the Jury “¿Te vas?”, Mediterranean Short Film Festival of Tangier (Morocco, 2011); Best Director Award, Asti Film Festival (Italy, 2011); Lady Filmmakers Film Festival or Special Mention of the Jury (USA, 2012) among others.
 

Her work as a cinematographer has also been recognized with several awards: Plus Camerimage Nomination for Best Cinematography Award (Poland, 2009); Best Cinematography Award CrashFest Film Festival (Greece, 2010); Best Cinematography Award KO&DIGITAL Festival de Cine Solidario (Spain, 2011); Best Cinematography Award Shaan-E-Awadh International Film Festival (India, 2012).
 

She currently combines her work as a director in advertising with the development of photographic projects (being one of the participants in Photoespaña Discoveries 2026) and film projects, such as the development of her first feature film.
